With all the turmoil going on in the world, the economic crisis, etc., I can honestly say I don’t find myself in a constant state of worry like many others I know. Is that faith, or just being foolish? I believe many would say I’m just being foolish because I could lose my job, my house, and probably even everything I own, but my faith in God sustains me, and just like my previous thought for the day says, “where God guides, God will provide”. Plus, everything I (we) have is a blessing from God, and it belongs to God. It’s all just on loan to us. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy nice things, just as much as the next person. But I try not to make my life all about things. See what Matthew 6:19-21 has to say about earthly treasures:
19“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
So, I’m not going to stress or worry over something I have no control over. As each day progresses, and the outlook grows dimmer and dimmer, I’ll reflect on the instructions left for us in Matthew 6:25-34:
25“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31“Therefore do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?’ or “What shall we drink?’ or “What shall we wear?’ 32For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Worrying truly profits us NOTHING GOOD!
Thanks so much for this topic today Renee. With so much going on and awry in my life right now I needed a faith boost.
My Madear use to say “If ya gonna worry and be afraid don’t bother praying. And if ya gonna pray ain’t no need in being worried or afraid.”
Someone shared this with me years ago-
The Fruit of Worrying
Death was walking toward a city one morning and a man asked, “What are You going to do?”
“I’m going to take 100 people,” Death replied. “That’s horrible!” the man said.
“That’s the way it is.” Death said. “That’s what I do.
” The man hurried to warn everyone he could about Death’s plan. As evening fell, he met Death again. You told me you were going to take 100 people,” the man said, “Why did 1,000 die?”
I kept my word,” Death responded. “I only took 100 people. Worry took the others.
” Worry is, and always will be, a fatal disease of the heart, body, and mind. For its beginning signals the end of faith. Worry intrudes on God’s compassionate ability to provide. When we allow our problems to overshadow God’s promises, we unknowingly, doom ourselves to defeat that was never part of God’s eternal plans.
Release the regrets of yesterday, refuse the fears of tomorrow and receive instead, the peace of today.
REMEMBER: WORRYING DOESN’T SOLVE ANYTHING, INSTEAD IT HURTS EVERYTHING.
Simply let go and let God be God.
